On 16,000 acres between the cities of Portland and Taft in San Patricio County, the Midway Farms Wind Project is situated. The project is around 15 miles northeast of Corpus Christi and close to the Texas Gulf Coast. For a total project capacity of 162.9MW, plans call for the building of 47 Siemens Gamesa G132 turbines. The project is scheduled to begin doing business in December 2018.

According to Heather Kreager, chief executive officer of Sammons Enterprises, the parent company of Sammons Renewable Energy, “Midway’s location near Texas’ wind-rich Gulf Coast and its proximity to the Electric Reliability Council of Texas’ South Hub position the development to fill an energy gap that will grow as coal-generation in ERCOT is retired.”

It is projected that the project would offset around 480,000 tons of carbon dioxide emissions annually.

Mark Goodwin, president and CEO of Apex, remarked that Midway Wind “once again highlights the promise and value of wind energy on the Gulf Coast of Texas.”

Midway is the first wind farm purchased by Sammons Renewable Energy in its native state of Texas.

The deal was finished on December 27. Leidos Engineering, LLC offered engineering guidance, and Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld offered legal counsel. On behalf of SRE, Franklin Park Investments will oversee the project. The deal’s specifics weren’t made public.
